So, I have a broken PS3 (the slim version, similar to the one above this lines). And I didn’t have the money to get a new PS4 but instead got a new PS3 for half the price of the PS4.
I also have a Nintendo Wii wich we use basically as a Netflix player; I actually bought the first PS3 and the Wii at the same time, nintendo knows how to make thigs that lasts. The other PS3 is also a netflix player but is were I usually play my games (I don’t do PC gaming, sorry).
The problem with Wii is that it supports 480p video output only and the Netflix App is old and lacks of features that are present in the PS3, like the auto play in series; also the cache is pretty small so repeating an scene requires it to reload that chunk. So, I’ve been thinking in replacing the Wii as the default Netflix player.
I’m thinking in getting an Apple TV for that, is cheap, small, it’s designed for video and supports Netflix. I also can do AirPlay from the iPads and play Music with iTunes. The Apple TV is pretty simple and I asume that my kids will learn how to use it pretty fast. But..
For the same price I can get a new PS3 (slim) motherboard and get the old PS3 working again, is basically the same price. The pro: Games, I would like to say an extra BlueRay Player but to be honest we don’t play BlueRay either.
Now I need to choose, repair the PS3 and get one exclusively for me (and share the other in the living room) or the Apple TV. I don’t know.. 🙁
I think it’s better to wait until September
Nothing but the true, many of the people that I know put their facebook avatar with colo stripes showing their support to what in the moment was the gay proud. They don’t remember or even feel embarased about that.
Note, this doesn’t happen only with LGTB, there are many other cases, like the native people victims of racism. Most people publish in their facebook wall that they support local business but they won’t stop buying at oxxo (something like 7 eleven). Other people “support” using bycile for transportation but they use the bike lanes for the cars and get mad if someone asks them to move. Or people that support fitnes and healty way of life but drinks one or two liter of soda a day, eat hamburguers, mexican fast food and no exercise at all.
People, if you want to change, please, start by changing yourself.
I’ve been an iOS user for not that long time, I come from using OS X in the desktop and Android in the mobile, but now I have an iPhone and an iPad which completes the triplet and it’s true, they are better together, although iOS can’t compare with OS X there are some things that can make it easier for many people to handle, this are again the things I don’t like and my wishes on iOS:
With iOS 8 it was really a delight to be able to choose my default email client. I no longer use the Mail app, which is fine, works great but there are better options, more if you take in count that the others offer push notifications on Gmail accounts (on which I heavily depend). I won’t deny it, I like Safari, but probably if I could I would use Chrome as my default browser, and I remark “probably” because I have to admit that I like Safari, it works great but having the choice is better.
I don’t have an Apple Watch, why should I have to carry with the Apple watch software, Also, I don’t use reminders, notes, Mail, iBooks, I use Wunderlist, Evernote, CloudMagic, and Kindle; I don’t use Tips or Podcasts at all.
This is bloatware like with any other product, Samsung does the same, HTC does the same, almost every company does the same, maybe motorola is the one that have the most lean Android experience. And I know that this is something that will never happen, if Apple let the users uninstall those apps the usage of those apps would drop dramatically (the same with safari), but they use space in the device and that’s not cool, at least the less popular apps should be able to be removed, like stocks, who the hell use stocks?
On the other side, there are apps that are completely missing in the iPad, like the calculator.
Sometimes I share my iPad with my daughter, having profiles would let me get out of the scope those apps that I don’t want her to open, like my email client, my pictures, my browser history, facebook/twitter and I also may don’t have to see her apps (mostly games) in the springboard.
Having a guest profile will allow me to share my iPad to somebody that come to visit me without worry, nobody should be able to see my personal stuff.
Several things went from iOS to OS X, like the notifications area which is in some way similar to iOS, but there is something different, the widgets, like the social, you can’t just tweet by pulling the notification area in iOS but you can in OS X.
Apple is pushing iCloud storage, they give to you 5Gb for free, but you will surely need more, and they are willing to sell, maybe that’s why you can’t just put a file in a common place in your iDevice even if it is empty. You just can’t. It would be nice to store music that is available to all music players and not having to repeat those songs across them (like when you have both iTunesMusic and Google Music); or like when you download a PDF from a site and then you want it to be available when you are offline, or your movies, that’s a must.
The “Open in App” feature in iOS 8 solves the issue I described here, in some way, but it does, although the offline option is better.
So, I hope some of them become reality I like iDevices because of the way they are build, the materials and the design, but I still feel that iOS needs to improve to catch Android.
but they are not willing to change themselves.
No Mr. Trump, Mexico is not sending the worst people, actually, they are the best. There are a lot of people looking for a better way of life, people that have to leave their family here to look for a better job. People that leave their country, their friends to have a better chance for their kids, people that try to grow. Those that you are talking about (ilegal immigrants) are the ones that need it the most, because of their education level a visa is not granted. Because of bureaucracy the visa is not granted, because of lack of opportunities the visa is not granted, but they are still looking for a better way to live.
Many mexicans go legally to US and Canada too, and they work on legal jobs, they produce, they are good people that work to have a better way of life.
Of course there are criminals running in and out of US, the same in mexico and in any other country, but please don’t treat all mexicans as criminals, we are not.
U.S. was made by immigrants, if you don’t believe me, please take a look at the history books.
And by the way, latin american is not the same than Mexican, latin american people are from several countries.

Just work harder.
A few days ago, five “kids” took the life of a 6 years old kid, they supposedly were “playing” a game were they kidnapped the kid, the problem, the backstabbed him, cut his chicks, asphyxiate him, then buried him and hide him with a dead animal, branches and leaves. That’s totally fucked, they weren’t playing they were committing a homicide, they are murders, they are not kids.
In principle, why kids are playing a game where one of them is kidnapped?. Well, the narco culture of mexico is painfully reaching kids, they see all that violence in TV, first because there is a constant booming of the media showing the massacres, the killed, the red note because that sells, not knowing that is it getting to the ones that on first place don’t know how to distinguish between good and evil. Of course, they will, but when they get to a mature age seeing people being killed will be so normal that there will be no difference, nothing to be scared off.
But also there is guilt in their parents, those who are responsible of teaching good principles to kids, those who, if want to be aware of the issues of the country, should take care that there are no kids around if there are crude images in the TV. Those who are responsible for the first tastes of their kids, which music do I want my kid to listen to, what kind of movies, what tv shows.
Leaving kids to grow just as “god let them know” is super bad, kids in their early years don’t know what is good or what is bad, they base their judges on what they see on their parents. If his/her parents listen narco-corridos then narco-corridos will be the choice for them, that will be normal, that will be okay to them. Do you want your kids to listen to music were the drug dealers are glorificated?, where ripping off the head of people is glorificated? where the singer states that he can kill whoever puts in his path? Do you really want that for your kids?. I hope not.
So, the problem is that parents should be aware of what do their kids listens/see/read. Teach them good principles, values, to respect the others in all ways. The problem is that many of todays parents in Mexico doesn’t teach this things to their kids, so, this is a vicious circle.
For the “kids” that kidnapped and killed that little angel, they deserve to be treated like adults, not like kids that will be released when they achieve full age (18 years old in mexico), two of those kids are already 15 years old, so, two years only for killing a kid?. No, they were conscious on what they were doing, they knew, what was the purpose of having a knife and stabbing the kid in the back?, they were there to kill him, they are not kids, they are behaving like adults, bad, rotten adults at the age of 15.
So sad, I remember to go outside and play for hours in the streets, now my kids don’t go out without an adult supervision, we are not safe anymore.
Thanks to the tracking stuff that Google do, I was one looking for cheap VPS to host a service that I use now in my family business, and thanks to that search a lot of Digital Ocean Ads displayed on the sites I visited, and I mean a lot, do you remember it? it was a video about a guy deploying the code he just wrote…
Well, I wasn’t really convinced about it, I already was using a server that I had for a couple of years, it was cheap because it was not a monster of server but it accomplish with the task. I was looking for an alternative because I started to see complains of other people about this company (starts with “server” and ends with “pronto”) and I had a couple of issues with terrible support. So, I decided to go for another server.
At the end I didn’t used a complete server but decided to try Digital Ocean because of the SSD and the VPS was in less than a minute up and running, I just installed my service dependencies and there it is. The best part, since I don’t need a big amount of space the cheapest VPS was really an option, it was the one with 20GB of storage, 1 core, 512GB of RAM for just $5 a month.
Yes, $5 a month, I spend more in the store when I go for a redbull and chips. And I was so happy that I moved all my other stuff (this blog included) to another VPS, this time with a bit more space since I host some pictures here. I couldn’t be more happy, it works super fast since the I/O is in a SSD, but the price is super lower compared to other full servers, even those leased servers.
This post was created several years ago, and I was using Digital Ocean long before I wrote this post, and I’m happy to say that I still use a VPS in DO. Why?.
Well, just about the price and the performance, I have almost no complaints about their platform, but they have improved they way we can make new VPS, se can create database VPS, we have real time monitoring to the server and everything in their control panel is pretty easy to use.
So, if you are in the need to try something live, in a full Linux server you should try Digital Ocean, is cheap, works like hell and it have an API so you can automate the process of creating/removing Virtual machines.
Now, all this looks like a commercial, and not, this is not a paid post from Digital Ocean, or almost no, D.O. hasn’t payed to me for this post, but if I convinced you to use Digital Ocean create an account with this referral link and you’ll get $10 to create your VPS (that’s two months of the $5 plan), I’ll get some too, that’s the good part, and of course, you can get in the referral program too.
If you have been using WordPress for a long time this may sound dumb since you may had this option for a long time, I just discovered.
Tumblr is the biggest competition to wordpress, one of its key feature is the “reblog” where you can just reblog a post and have it in your blog. So, we can see blogs that are entirely reblogs, from multiple sites and sometimes it is easier to just follow that blog because they have information from multiple sources you don’t have to be looking for.
To me this is a good thing, not to “steal” content from other blogs, but I see that some sites like Twitter and Facebook, they live because of the content we display on them, its like a deal, you let me use your service for free, you put ads in the timeline and live with the content I’m creating. I’ve been trying to keep my stuff with me and by myself, aside from flickr, my blog, my email and other stuff is with me, I’m not a purist, I use Gmail and some other services, but what belongs to me and I do care about it is in my server and with my services.
So, if I post to twitter, to me is good to share via my blog, so you can visit my blog too.
“Press this” is not just a “reblog” system, I can add text so I can add a comment to that post, so I share that post, and since I add my point of view and more importantly I’m adding a link to the source I’m not stealing any content.
Let you delete one finder instance from one of your screens, with this you may dedicate one screen to full screen apps only and the other for the rests. It’s pretty annoying to have finder selected in the secondary screen but since it is an “extension” of your primary desktop you see no icons, so, Finder can use both screens but it won’t change to the whole desktop when you select finder.
This is in first place inconsistent, and may be useless when you want to select some file from the desktop and the finder “part” that is visible is in the secondary screen. Putting the same desktop icons in both screens would definitively help, having only one desktop would be great!.
